Why?: Episode 1

"Pretty funny."

submission: Why?: Episode 1
date: June 24, 2006

I actually looked it up on Google Earth and found it, I can’t deny the resemblance myself, despite a “bump” on the left called Stockholm… I found the film funny and interesting to watch, the background jerked a bit but overall, very nice. If only you’d get real voice actors it would be even better. Nice Geographical find.

Technical brief:

Graphics: 7, Pretty decent graphics, good enough to make this into a good movie. Though on some of the frames, the background jerked a little.

Style: 7, A great natural parody. I’d have never thought I’d live to see the day a parody about nature would exist. Keep up the good work.

Sound: 6, The voices were practically a clock trade mark, forgot that program’s name but never the less, real voices would <Ace Ventura accent>Re-hi-hi-ly</accent> help.

Violence: 0, unless a combination of the 4 countries to create a sex organ is violent, none.

Interactivity: 2, A play button, not much, just enough for a movie.

Humor: 7, Once I saw it was real, I laughed my ass off. Also, for once the comedy of the clock characters wasn’t bad.

Overall: 7, Pretty good, I’m impressed. Fix the background, get real voice actors. And you got it made. Congratulations on a successful parody about nature.

Fun With Suicide #8

"Great movie, if only it wasn’t true."

date: June 24, 2006

As have others, I have reached this page by the random entry button, upon seeing the author, I recalled a thread of the NG news explaining of your suicide in 04, making this flash no surprise. It is sad that you indeed not only toyed with suicide in your flash but also committed it in reality, the worst part being not every one who sees your work even know the death you have died. I don’t know why I’m writing this review, as it is not likely you will be seeing it but I feel I must leave a note. Your death has been hard on us all, of course a flash movie like this could have only contributed to that awful day.

Now, in utter confusion, I will speak of your movie. It had good drawings and animation, the sound was well synched, the topic obvious. I just don’t know what more can I say without looking any more a fool than now, but I must speak my mind. If it were any other author to submit this, I’d think of it a funny in the parody sense. But seeing as this is not such case, I cannot bare to see how you thought of life, a game. Nothing more. Sad, yet understandable. Also I would like to state a thought that crossed my head while writing this, if this account were to be hacked and a reply to this review given, I will have a heart attack.

The brief, sadly it will stay this way to the end of days.

Graphics: 8, Well drawn and animated, if only you could let go of the suicidal topics, even back then.

Style: 7, If it wasn’t for your grim fate, I’d find this to be a funny movie, but knowing otherwise, I cannot.

Sound: 7, once more, a song of the same topic, yet the song recommends not to commit such an act.

Violence: 8, as you knew better than any one, there a good share of violence here. The suicide of the jumper plummeting to his known death, as did you.

Interactivity: 5, a play button. Everything a movie needs.

Humor: 1, This was meant to be humorous, and it would be, if we hadn’t know that the animation you made in your head happened in real life ( death that is, not poorly sky diving )

Overall: 7, For what it’s worth, a good movie, even now, 2 years after. Rest in peace.

Memory Game

"Simple fun game."

submission: Memory Game
date: June 24, 2006

A fun to play, small game. Very simple graphics, a nice sound for each button, I would really love it. Too bad you never kept your promise of a universal high score web page… That would have made the game a lot more fun. Other than that, a fun game to play.
It’s one of the finest and simplest games I’ve seen in ages. They say brilliance is simplicity, I believe you would agree.

Brief:

Graphics: 2, Very simple, but nothing more was needed.

Style: 3, Again, basic, but just right.

Sound: 6, just sound effects for every color, but as I said before, that was all that was needed.

Violence: 0, Need I say more? How could a game like this contain violence.

Interactivity: 5, Average, all that I needed.

Humor: 0, I don’t think there was supposed to be anything funny here. And there wasn’t.

Overall: 6, Above average for a game.

Crazy Mario

"Not that bad."

submission: Crazy Mario
date: June 24, 2006

The graphics were decent enough for sprites, I’ve seen better but it’s ok. The plot was alright, some of the things do need work though. Some of the movement could have been done better, you shouldn’t have switched at time from a sprite to a regular drawing, pick an animation kind and stick to it. Plus it could be better if you didn’t use so many real photos, real photos unless soft porn, aren’t too welcome in a flash movie.

Brief:

Graphics: 5, Sprite, real photos and some regular animation, the drawings weren’t that good, no shades or anything, kind of plain looking, the sprites don’t count seeing as you weren’t the one to make them.

Style: 5, A nice storyline overall but way too predictable and cliché.

Sound: 6, A sound effect for the button and the bullets, nothing special.

Violence: 9, Lots of gun fire… If only it was more tastefully done and not a blunt American way.

Interactivity: 4, A play button and the text switching button.

Humor: 5, Not really meant to be funny, but it had a couple pieces of humor.

Overall: 6, Just above average, keep improving, learn to use Sprites a bit differently ( sprite games are usually fun ) and I hope you do well, even though, I got here upon the random entry button and you aren’t likely to see this.

Score: 2
psycho gordo

"Nothing good or interesting."

submission: psycho gordo
date: June 24, 2006

A very simple flash in a basic level, not too bad, but it could use some improvement. I suggest sharpening your drawing skills. Also some better sound will really help your flash. Find a good storyline to put on your flash, since plot is important. Interactivity would be nice, some controls during the movie like quality or scene select, once you have scenes. Maybe a joke or funny situation just to put in some real humor. Do that and you could even make your own series.

Brief:

Graphics: 1, Basic drawing, no shading, no effects, simple drawings, I’ll bet you do better on paper, get a tablet and draw your animation through it if you find drawing with your mouse hard. I’d get one myself if I knew where to get one around here…

Style: 1, I’m guessing this was supposed to be some monster/psycho thing you were trying to do here but it didn’t look too impressive, I think better graphics would have helped ( see above note )

Sound: 1, A small tune, I didn’t think it was useful, better sound effects would have contributed more if you ask me.

Violence: 1, Being beaten by a bat and cracking, not as violent as it sounds.

Interactivity: 1, A play button…So much, yet so little.

Humor: 1, It wasn’t funny or anything but I don’t think you intended it to be.

Overall: 2, pretty bad overall, improve on the above.

Mario meets the ClockCrew

"Quite decent."

date: June 24, 2006

A pretty good sprite movie combined with regular flash elements. It was funny and interesting enough to watch. Though I recommend strengthening the voices of the clocks as they are a little hard to hear. Other than that it is a rather good flash.

Technical brief.

Graphics: 5, Some sprites combined with regular flash animation, nothing too exaggerated, just good enough

Style: 6, A funny feel of parody, and just an overall good style…

Sound: 5, Some sound effects and the Mario music as well, not bad but I didn’t expect much either.

Violence: 5, A bit of it, I think Mario kicking the throne was way too violent ;-)

Interactivity: A play button and controls during the movie, pretty useful, keep it up

Humor: 6, rather funny, good enough to watch, a cliché joke here and there would have helped.

Overall: 6, above average, funny. If you have anything to improve on you already know it.

TTA Episode 002

"Not bad for such a long series."

submission: TTA Episode 002
date: June 24, 2006

I saw number 1 and this other then a few grammar mistakes ( I think some were intended ) it was fine but I have to say, it didn’t have anything special, nothing to keep me remotely interested to watch the rest of it. It has to have something that makes it unique… Which at that moment, it didn’t have.

All in all…

Graphics: 5, Sprites, not the worst I’ve seen, the small sketch of who is talking above was nice, but sprites… It doesn’t quite capture it.

Style: 6, yet another sprite combat movie, in reality, tedious.

Sound: 5, music wasn’t bad, but voices would have been nice.

Violence: 2, Sprites fighting each other is hardly my definition of violence.

Interactivity: 5, a play button and a button to switch between all the text. Average

Humor: 2, I didn’t laugh, there was little to enjoy and so, not humorous.

Overall: 6, just above average, I sure hope you improved with time.

"Very good work."

date: June 24, 2006

While I haven’ gotten to see any of your other work, got to your page on my random reviewing spree, I enjoyed this movie. I’m sure it deserves it own collection and there isn’t anything I can say to help you improve, only vice versa if anything.

Now for your compliments.

Graphics: 9, Very will animated, the drawing, good enough. The woman…Proportional, the guys, average ( not including the supposed Football player who is just massive ). It was fun to watch and the graphics were fine.

Style: 9, If it’s good enough to get its own series then it must be good. I like the style it had of the whole “fight for the girl” atmosphere which I’m a fan of due to poor experience with women…

Sound: 10, Voices were good and professional and for the most part, easy to understand, the music in between at times was good and reflected the mood of the scene well.

Violence: 9, A good dose of violence but tastefully done if I might add, the punching and fighting of Mike and “Satan” is it, also when the football player character pounds a guy into a pulp.

Interactivity: 6, All the movie needed, a play and replay button, no point in anything more here.

Humor: 8, I laughed at times, like the loading screen and some of the scenes, and to combine fighting and laughing, to me is rare and you get points just for that.

Overall: 8, A very good movie, which I’m sure made for a great series.

Now my very own category of judgment:
Intelligence: 10, Finally, a movie where the level of the English level isn’t limited to “Dude” and “ass”.

FlashTut:SimplePreloader

"Not the worst I’ve seen."

date: June 24, 2006

Most people will choose the NG preloader to spare themselves of the time and effort a preloader takes, though the people who do not like branded preloaders will enjoy the independent preloader like the one you suggested. N

Now for your technical brief and recommendations.

Graphics: 4, A very simple background and the screen shots from flash seemed very choppy and not exactly contributed as you wanted them to.

Style: 2, Very basic, a couple of buttons, text and choppy screen shots. I recommend a bit more class, nicer looking buttons, perhaps with a sound effect added to them.

Sound: 0, There was no sound, a simple loop of audio from the audio portal would have been nice to entertain us during the read.

Violence: 0, There was none, but as with any good film, you can insert violence. Make a preloader in the shape of an arm, moving towards someone’s head and it will load just as the fist reaches the face. Thus representing some violence. Try it, who knows, you might be fond of it.

Interactivity: 2, no play button, just the switching buttons, it’s just not enough… We are arrogant people who enjoy big flashes with plenty of buttons, make a play button, a quality button, a sound button ( with sound to make sure the button isn’t for nothing )

Humor: 1, It’s a tutorial, it’s not meant to be of humor, but a couple funny gestures never killed any one have they? As much as funny example of what you made in the tutorial would do.

Overall: 4, It’s just not that good, and it needs work, I sure hope you follow my suggestions, and know that I admire your work as I too am trying hopelessly with Flash.

P.S: as the last review was in 04, you will probably not see this, but if you do, I hope it helps.

K-FED: Dancing with Fire

"Great game, except one problem."

date: June 16, 2006

First let me say this is a great game in almost every aspect of gaming, but I’d like to address you to one problem, when playing replay (which you should ) nobody punches and you can’t punch. Probably only a little code problem, but as Tom is responsible for the programming, he should fix it. But in any other form, this game rocks. No doubt any one has a reason to vote under 4.

Technical brief ( so not needed )

Graphics: 10 , awesome, I’d have to pull Jeff’s eyes out so he couldn’t do any better…

Style: 9 , great, beat some moron nobody likes, a good mood of kick ass.

Sound: 9 , good sounds, especially the power shot

Violence: 10 , Do I even need to explain?

Interactivity: 9 , a good feel that you are in control.

Humor: 10 , very funny, I laughed and punched at the same time.

Overall: 10 , make this a series.

Review: Ghost_Phantom
Testing and confirming the glitch: EagleRock

P.S: Tom, your self esteem ( by the character ) is clearly high, but no one here will argue over that.

Author's Response:

I asked Jeff and Stamper if the intro was too mastebatory, but they insisted on going all out.
