Zombie Panic!

"Excellent teaser."

submission: Zombie Panic!
date: June 24, 2006

I am looking forward to the full movie already. This teaser film, as opposed to what others may say, was rather good. It had all the elements of action/survival/horror movies drawn down perfectly, moaning zombies for no reason and a couple civilians with big guns. The visuals were practically mind blowing as it was made in a clearly high level, wit great drawings and superb animation of movement everything about it. I did like its style and I would like to see the real movie when you do make it. A great knock off to a genre usually filled with lame attempts. A wise man once said “ If you have to steal, steal from the best” and clearly while this style does not exclusively belong to you, you copied it to your own version very well. The music was very good, suited the atmosphere of fear like a charm. It wasn’t too good, to distract you from the movie, but not too bad as to not compliment the movie. Violence was strong, lot’s of blood, zombies and guns, not tastefully added but it’s nothing I can’t live with. Just sort of a rush of violence with no real story for now. Interactivity was short but to the point. A play button, and website links. I don’t think such a short intro needed any more but with the full version it wouldn’t hurt. It didn’t make me laugh or anything since this was clearly not a comedy movie but I’m not saying a couple of zombie jokes wouldn’t hurt, just a few zombie and genre cliché’s would be a nice addition to a genre usually so serious. And overall, the movie was pretty good and I hope to see what you make next.

And after this long summery I go into details about every section, whether it needs improving or not. I hope you enjoy you read and think out the things I’m about to say as constructive criticism and not a regular harsh critic, since I have some flash experience out of NG.

Here it is:

Graphics: 9, The drawings were very good and the animation very smooth. Nothing was out of place, everything moved just like it would in real life, if some of these things existed in real life. Visually, is this movie’s most appealing feature, without the stunning visuals it has this movie would be absolutely nothing.

Style: 9, The genre is clearly survival/horror and the style…Well, I’m sorry I can’t say it’s original. But it was still interesting as a re-make of a certain worn out genre. If anything I suggest you make it into a parody about the genre. You know, like the super flash bros do with the Decline series, make a parody out of it and it will go much better.

Sound: 8, The music went very well and the sound effects of the zombies too, though you might want to consider adding some classical horror music ( I can’t remember which movie it was, but it involved a shower curtain and a knife…) Just come cliché music to add to the humor. But for hoe serious it was, it was good.

Violence: 8, Of course there was the usual guns firing and zombies eating brain matter for lunch. But I think you should have ended this teaser with the guy shooting the zombie with his novelty size shotgun. Maybe make what the zombies do to people more graphic, you know. Something that could some people throw up :-D

Interactivity: 5, Not much to say about this category, but I’ll improvise. It had the play button that lead to another menu, with another play button as well as two links to others websites, now if you could explain the anomaly of 2 play buttons I’d appreciate it. Couldn’t you just load the second play button right away? Seems weird to me.

Humor: 3, There is rarely humor in this genre unless it’s a parody. Personally, I think turning this movie into a parody would make it better, that way you can insert a lot more corny zombie humor and stuff. But if you don’t and make it into a serious short, then I suppose you’ll have to rely on graphics and plot to save you.

Overall: 9, Overall very good movie teaser. As I specified before, almost everything turned out to be very well done.

Author's Response:

thank you for the thought out review, it was good.
But this is not going to be a series, it is a teaser for the new hl2 mod zombie panic source.
Dead Rain is my zombie series, which is going throug ha restart at this time, keep an eye out for it.

Hammy vs. Mek: Extended

"Excellent movie."

date: June 24, 2006

This movie had some impressive elements in it, including the graphics and sound and much more. The movie starts as the hamster and mouse meet and begin to fight, at this point, an introduction as to why the two are fighting each other with such rage would have been nice. Thinking of a deeper plot would be very interesting. Just about anything will due, it is also your chance to insert some well needed humor… I will demonstrate: Hamster: “ You were there when they sent my girlfriend to the lab, and did nothing, for this I will kill you”. Mouse: “Bring it rodent…” Any sort of introduction like that would contribute so much to the movie, of course I will also be flattered if you use my idea. Besides that, I had trouble understanding why in some small parts of the movie, you made the hamster into a button.. The button of course leads no where but I noticed it is a button and I wonder why. The animations of the characters and the fighting was well done, you of course used the Dragonball Z effect of the yellow aura ( Get your own ideas… Kidding ). Also if any one stuck to the end, after the credits roll it continues to show the moving road and nothing more, a replay button would help, as I’m sure people would like to watch it more than once. And as for everything else, well done and keep up the good work, I have also seen the original and I like where this idea went.

And now, after that long paragraph, I take you to the detailed explanation of your statistics:

Graphics: 9, The animation style was very good, drawing effects including FBF and the blur effect worked out well, same with the animation. It moved very gracefully and smoothly, and most importantly, the sounds of the music synchronized very well and on time.

Style: 8, clearly an action movie, no one can deny that. But it was well executed and all, everything was great except that a fighting movie needs to be surrounded by this modern blasted invention called plot, once you add one, this movie will go sky high.

Sound: 10, Music was great, I couldn’t notice any sound effects because of the music but still, the music was exciting, exhilarating, and perfect for the tone of the movie, very powerful and heavy. Great fighting music in my opinion.

Violence: 9, Even hamsters and mice are fighting now, now that’s a world of real violence. The fighting was plenty and all but it was also funny. You used energy balls for some of the fight, which was alright and common in these genres.

Interactivity: 6, Just what it needed a play button, directions to the original and your website. Though it’s a shame I didn’t see what the first version of this movie had, a seek during the movie for more control if you need to stop it for some time or anything of that kind, just add what was in the first version and you will be set.

Humor: 3, Earlier I suggested you add more humor, and I stand by it, just some minor funny plot would solve to problems at once.

Overall: 8, Overall a very good movie, I hope you keep making them. So far it looks very good as long as you work on the things I suggested.

Author's Response:

Haha... I really know know quite what to say! I acutally read all that. And thanks! NG needs more people like you. who don't just leave reviews "oh this was crappy crap" or "oh this was great, make more" I'm glad someone actually goes into detail about whats good and whats not

thanks!

Denzean Knights

"Very good."

submission: Denzean Knights
date: June 24, 2006

But it did have a few issues, for one, enemies. They seem to respond to your sword, so you swing once, within safe distance, and hit them the next time.. Or jump behind them, since it seems they cannot look or fight back. Also the back jump, really annoying, make a jump that can go either way. As for sound, she grunts too much, why if I hadn’t known any better, I could have sworn the voices were taken from a movie type that hosts a lot grunting. Graphics were ok but could have been much sharper and better, The style was that of a true adventure platform game. Violence was little, just a sword smack here and there. Possibilities were great though, lot’s of options and menus. Looks very impressive as far as interactivity goes. As for humor, the sounds she makes while jumping ten feet in the air groaning while holding an oversized novelty sword used for God knows what but killing, it wasn’t that funny. Overall, not bad, but could sure use some work.

And now, I’ll probably repeat this whole thing, category, by category:

Graphics: 9, Quite well drawn and animated, but the visuals should be sharper as it seemed odd even on my rather good pc, in high quality.

Style: 8, A platform/adventure/hack&slash game, which motivates us because we are playing the role of a woman ( which frankly, of some one used a sword to slice her clothes I wouldn’t flinch ) is less common in the gaming world.

Sound: 7, Well, you’ve clearly made your point it is a woman character. But why must the whole house hear when she makes a jump, as if something is wedged up her… Never mind, just make it... More realistic.

Violence: 6, Violence in this game was rather slim, the programming of the enemies did little good to that, no blood, no gore, how is a man supposed to enjoy a game of hack and slash without enough gore and guts? I can’t think of it.

Interactivity: 6, Well, the programming the enemies was shabby, they do not turn, and mostly strike only when you strike, if people like that existed, I doubt any one would trust them enough with a sword. Also, the jumping feature of the heroine, rather bad, almost every platform you land on, you are pushed away a bit for some odd reason, but. You have done well with the menu screens, a save&load button, new game, etc… Makes for easy game play and more fun, so as far is interactivity goes, you have done very well with ,menu screens but poorly in the game’s action script.

Humor: 6, I some how found the her carrying such an oversized sword and always groaning, is a joke that writes itself. Same goes to the bad enemy AI and jumps. If you ever heard the expression “It’s so bad, it’s good”. This is not such a case, please improve on those things.

Overall: 8, In general, a good game, but you have more than enough things to improve on to make this a better game. And as conclusion, good luck and best of wishes in the making of these games.

POTO - The magic potato

"Nice game."

date: June 24, 2006

It needs more plot but it sure is a fun small game to play. Controls were pretty good, I hope you keep making these games, with a plot. Everything was pretty good, backgrounds were good, controls responsive. All it needs now is a plot. Keep up the good work. I think you can do very well in flash.

And now for the stats:

Graphics: 8, Well drawn and animated. Everything looked nice in it. Appealing.

Style: 7, Sort of an adventure platform game but without plot. Not bad overall

Sound: 7, pretty good music, it blended in well, I liked it, no complaints here.

Violence: 3, nothing much, just the tractor can kill the potato.. Silly isn’t it, but I guess violent.

Interactivity: 5, Easy good controls, pick up an play game, nicely done.

Humor: 6, kind of fun to play, funny concept I suppose.

Overall: 7, Good game, keep working on them.

KUBA MC

"Cute game."

submission: KUBA MC
date: June 24, 2006

A nice little game that’s fun to play. It is mostly a platform game, but a new kind and fun too. It was innovative for a game, the game play was fun and easy, a health bar would have helped though, but it was cool killing people with a speaker phone. I liked the idea, not just improve the details of game play a bit and I’m positive this game will do even better. Best of luck to you and I’m glad I could be there to save this submission.

And now, your some what detailed explanation of your stats:

Graphics: 8, Very nicely drawn and animated. Good work, keep it up.

Style: 7, A decent style of a platformer, it was fun to play and original, I’ll probably play it again, just fix up a few things, the trash can on fire pissed me off..

Sound: 7, Nice sounds overall, especially the cool way you kill people in this game.

Violence: 3, Yeah, you kill people, but no blood or anything, just a speaker.

Interactivity: 5, Enough controls to have fun with it.

Humor: 6, As I said, funny in how you kill.

Overall: 7, good game, I’d love to see more of its kind on NG.

Puncho salad boy edition

"Nice game."

date: June 24, 2006

A pretty fun game that the difficulty moves well as you go from level to level, works well, isn’t boring, in fact, is quite interesting. I had fun playing it. It ran well with no glitches I could see, music fit in well, beating up flowers never got old, same with the bugs, the essence of the game was simple and fun. Controls were responsive, an overall good game, just what a good flash game needs, keep up the good work my friend.

Essence of the core:

Graphics: 8, well drawn and animated, everything looked very nice, makes you want to keep playing, everything including backgrounds and all looked great.

Style: 7, It’s a bit hard to define this game, because it has different elements of several genres. But still a great game never the less.

Sound: 7, Music fit in well with everything, effects and everything sounded great. Well placed. Good work on all the sounds.

Violence: 6, Beating up flowers and bugs is fun. Kill everything weaker than you, a motto for life.

Interactivity: 6, several moves, don’t think I needed them all, but I was glad to have them.

Humor: 6, funny in its own way, the surroundings and everything, humorous.

Overall: 7, A fun game overall, glad to have saved it, keep it up.

Author's Response:

thank you,
im very glad you liked it.
after all..
that is my goal :)
im stil working on new playgrounds and in stead of flowers. there will be,

The Slackers 2

"Nice movie."

submission: The Slackers 2
date: June 24, 2006

It was pretty funny, and well drawn and all, but my problem was the sound, voices sounded rather bad, there was the static echo messing with it making the sound much worse, if you could fix it I’m sure the movie will be better. Also a background would be nice at some point, but the rest was rather good.

Now for your stats:

Graphics: 8, Good drawing and animation but a few more backgrounds wouldn’t hurt.

Style: 7, Comic atmosphere, pretty funny. Just good old comedy, nice.

Sound: 6, Voices were a mess, the static kept bothering me, try and get rid of it. Use a tissue near the microphone or get a better quality microphone.

Violence: 5,a couple smacks for the poor guy in the movie, but not too much.

Interactivity: 3, As usual, a play button.

Humor: 6, Pretty funny, also reminds me of my experience with women…

Overall: 7, Good movie, I laughed and enjoyed it, keep up the good work.

Master Shot

"Not bad."

submission: Master Shot
date: June 24, 2006

The game decent enough for what it was, there are still things to improve about it that need improving, I’ll expand on them soon, but now I want to mention that you said this would be just a mini game long ago but it I still see no full game, will there ever be one?

And now, as promised, your stats:

Graphics: 7, Good graphics but I would like to see the arrow firing, and a better aim cursor couldn’t hurt. The drawings were well done and so was the animation, but it has to be more than a mini game.

Style: 6, It had a decent style, if I had to choose a genre then it would have to be shooting, but this is just not enough, targets go too fast to make an efficient shot too. Slow them down and maybe, just maybe, finish the game.

Sound: 6, The music was there, but I can’t say I liked it, it was a bit too loud and strong for this type of game, I suggest choosing something more quiet to suit the atmosphere of the game? There are plenty tunes to suit this much better than what you chose.

Violence: 0, Well at the moment the only thing we are getting to do is shoot targets, once we get to shoot something with a pulse, it will have a score for violence, until then, this is basic target practice and nothing more.

Interactivity: 6, Well I was given instructions, and a play button, basic and normal, but as I said before, the only thing to boost interactivity on this is expanding into a bigger game. Something a lot harder and with more things to do.

Humor: 0, I don’t think was supposed to have any humor so I believe that category will be left blank for the time being.

Overall: 7, A good overall game, but you need to improve on the music selection, add a flying arrow and basically finish the game.

Nuke Patrol

"Nice game."

submission: Nuke Patrol
date: June 24, 2006

I never did read the instructions, I shot every body… Armed, unarmed. It did lag until I closed and reopened it, you really should fix that... But it was a fun game to play, I liked the idea it had. But I’ve seen better version of this game before. D-fense was one of the best. You may want to use some ideas it had. It was still to play this, guess if Armor games is willing to host it, it can’t be bad.

Now for the pure stats:

Graphics: 7, Nice drawing and animation, I’ve have seen better though.

Style: 6, Sort of defend the base, shoot bad guys kind of game, not bad for its kind, but inspire for the best.

Sound: 6, Good gun sound effects, not sure about the bazooka though. It was nice but the Sprite blow up interrupted it. Still good sounds.

Violence: 7, Lot’s of shooting and blowing shit up, sounds just like the border.

Interactivity: 6, Nice abilities to buy guns and towers and all.

Humor: 5, funny when you waste 10 bullets on a person who was shot in the body and just takes ages to die <_<

Overall: 7, Pretty good for game but it could use some improvement.

NSG007: NG Quiz

"Nice quiz."

submission: NSG007: NG Quiz
date: June 24, 2006

Can’t wait for the full version of 30 questions, and maybe something like a side quiz for the B/P ranks? Also I liked the NG like design but it turned a bit dull with no music. But overall I really liked this quiz, keep making them. Questions about NG history are a good idea, see who has been doing their reading here…

And now, the explanation for your scores:

Graphics: 8, Just like the visual look of NG, and since I love that, I like this as well. Looked just perfect for a NG design.

Style: 6, a good quiz game, interesting and fun to play. Especially with the level up motive, I do urge you to make a B/P rank version or at least make bonus questions of them.

Sound: 0, None… Add it.

Violence: 0, Haven’t seen too many quizzes with violence…

Interactivity: 5, Pretty good for a quiz game.

Humor: 4, I don’t think a quiz is supposed to be funny.

Overall: 7, Very good quiz. Liked the next one you made.

Author's Response:

Cheers for the fairly thorough review.

The last version will have at least 50 questions. Levels 10+ take longer to reach, so that'll be reflected in the quiz.

Bonus questions are an interesting idea though.

Glad you enjoyed the quiz. I've got some stuff I wanna try out for future versions, so keep an eye out.

And let me know how you get on! I enjoy hearing folk's scores etc.

Stay funky,
- Bez
