Chaos Faction

"work of art."

submission: Chaos Faction
date: September 9, 2006

I began playing it one night and quite simply couldn't stop. I fell in love in every aspect of the game. I kept playing, and unlike other frustrating games, here in the harder levels, when you do fail you feel more like just trying again than getting angry over failing. You don't have time to be angry with the urge to keep playing. and that, is the definition of a great game. Graphics were fluid, automatically adjusted for slower computers, even though I didn't find it needed for myself. The animation of everything beginning the natural catastrophes and ending with the weapons and punched were great looking, completely following the foot steps of "Rayman" with no limbs making movement much simpler to make. It was and will be the best free fighting game I have ever played, and in fact. I think you could give Namco and their Tekken series a run for their money. background sounds were great, very suitable, well placed and times, the weapons of different sorts. Every noise was in perfect place. Great work on overall sound considering the huge amount of it. And you've managed to make the most child proof, yet violent game there was. Because of the insane amount of unreal objects, things and moves, no child will try and copy that. And yet there is enough violence to please people like me who play "God of War" on a daily base. Meaning, congratulations on great thinking regarding the violence control. Of course everything was interactive, moving stages, weapons. It was like Worms mixed with that Nintendo melee game... Bringing the point, what do you think about being able to blow some of the environment up? Tricky but they did it in Worms. There was even humor considering all the characters and their kinds... It wasn't the most original idea, but one of the best uses of it I have ever seen, very diverse. Lots of fun to be had no matter what you have or haven't done. Plenty of effort put into it, more than I could probably think of. And generally, great work. If I were you, I'd be damn proud.

and now, for the pure stats:

graphics: 10, outstanding visuals including the animation as well as the drawings of the characters. all of which being very fluid, and easy on the eyes. in lack of a better word, perfect. Every single motion thanks to the limbless character design was simple and quick, no need to rely on things like gravity or whatever.
style: 10, a violent, child safe melee style fighting game, very fun to play and keeps you busy for hours on end. And even in the most frsutrating bits you still don't give up and juts keep on playing. Simply inspiring.
sound: 9, very good sounds and music for every situation. fits all, gets you in the mood. All sounds and music were put to use quite nicely, not much more to be said here.
violence: 10, plenty of violence involved in the game, but still reasonable enough to have fun and make sure no one tries the same at home. Since we know some do attempt stunts at home, making them completely unreal is a good solution, don't know if it even crossed your mind though.
interactivity: 9, interactive backgrounds, various weapons, just about everything i needed. settings, game modes. more than enough for any game. Links to other sites, of course only by choice. A level editor and the option to use is going way over and beyond the call of duty. The modes within the game.
humor: 9, funny interesting characters. pretty much as funny as a game can be. But the best part was how weapons were put to use.
effort: 10, lots of visible effort put into this, including all the levels, designing, characters, sounds and everything described above and below.
diversity: 8, It was diverse enough to keep playing it for many hours. Lots of modes to play in , settings, things to unlock. Good work regarding that.
originality: 7, Not the most original idea out there since it has been done before but this, as a remake of the genre is quite extraordinary.
overall: 10, Flawless game as far as I could tell and I have to state that it is the best free version ever for an existing game that costs money.

A Simple Line 8

"Mind blowing."

submission: A Simple Line 8
date: July 15, 2006

Since this amazing work is done by several artists, I thought I should review the work of each artist individually. Know that the scores I gave the movie are an average of all of the movies combined and split equally. But no scores, you all rocked.

First thing’s first, things I must review equally. Well, one thing.
Interactivity: 9, extremely well done, usually all the tips I give for artists about what buttons need adding, I can’t say here, since they have already been added. A pause button, scene select, quality control and much more. I could not have asked for more. But if you press play before the quality sets itself back to high, it stays on low, then you manually change, and by clicking pausing it, a bit frustrating, maybe that could be fixed.

Totty:
Amazing graphical abilities, drawings and animation looked perfect, and yet so random, human motion was so good I doubt I walk that realistically. Animation, extraordinary work, That’s putting FBF to good use. Music was very fitting, since the movie was built around it, sounded very cool. Nothing violent either, just shockingly random. Great work. In all aspects considered, I’d give it a 9 out of ten. You just sit there struck with shock as you watch it, so random, I loved it in a way I can’t even explain.

tfc:
Another work of art, very well done in the graphical sense. Motion was smooth and good looking, a sort of struggle of man and machine, known idea, but still an awesome version of it. Music was cool, high paced and so was the flash, good for a fight scene. Well done. The smoke effect and impact were my favorite pieces, must have taken ages to make.

BBQ:
Rather short, but still good. Graphics and animation, better than I will ever make but sort of pales when compared to the others, I’m sure you can do better, if you only tried. Just found it a bit random, but in the wrong dosage, not random enough to be random, and not explained enough to not be random, sort of a mixture, didn’t work that well, but it was still good work. Only one question out of many: Why an elephant?

ToxicBomb:
For some reason, my personal favorite, it might have been the music or something but I liked this more than anything else and watched it the most. Graphics were astounding. So life like motion and drawings. Music was very good, great tune to it and synchronized well in the movie. No violence simply because you can’t describe violence on an inanimate object. A shape exploding isn’t violent, it’s cool though. Keep up the awesome work. But I guess what attracted me to your movie was probably the music, the beat sounded very interesting to me. But the flash complimented the song pretty nicely.

Shawn Hollern:
Very interesting, short but interesting. The graphics looked very good, motion was life like in a spooky way. Music was pretty good as well, very well done, and trust me, it was no waste, to any one. It was very fun to watch, skulls moving in a very realistic fashion, it felt incredibly real. Even stunned me, also very good use of the smoke effect. I’d say it was good as the one in “The YuYu”.

And for closing I’d like to say this, an amazing collaboration between you all. All of the movies looked terrific, the is nothing I can suggest be added or removed, it was all perfect. I am looking forward to seeing more work by all of you. I’d write more, but by now I’ve lost any point I may have had worth mentioning. NG collabs, +1.And one final note before I stop with this chaotic review: amazing work.

Attack of the evil TV

"Nice overall movie."

date: July 15, 2006

Pretty much a good movie to watch, not too long and it was funny. Though I couldn’t understand why it got two daily awards, must have been some mistake with the portal bot, never seen it happen before, congratulations, you broke the portal bot :-P Graphics were alright, nice motion and good look, the snow on the t.v wasn’t the best, still characters were well drawn and animated. The style was definitely a comic relief sort of thing, pretty funny idea, though it has been done before in a real movie I believe. Still, a good idea for a flash and was well executed. The voices were alright but I’ve heard much better. You need to clear up the sounds, voice actors need to have a strong voice that is heard through a microphone. These were alright but not very professional. AS far as buttons go you only had the play button, but in a move like this I’d recommend a few more buttons like quality control and a pause button as well. All the usual things a high level flash movie is expected to have, you are playing with the big boys now. It was of course pretty funny, the part with the guy in the night gown was predictable but still funny, seemed the chicks enjoyed watching it, suppose it’s no different guys watching when two women are at it. I’d say that part was the best in the movie, of course a couple more cliché jokes would be nice. The idea has been done before in the means of a movie I recall where a family was stuck in a magical evil satellite dish. This is similar but a bit different none the less, not the most original idea but at least it was well done. Diversity was ok, nothing was ever really shocking or something like that, but it was just fun to watch. Of course it took a lot of work to make this but you could try and add a few more buttons, and have the voice actors speak a bit more louder and more clearly, as well it perfect the voice synchronizing. Still a very good movie despite the few problems I mentioned.

As for suggestions, I already mentioned that you need more buttons to help improve viewer control, and overall work on sound. As well as removing one of the daily awards ( I’m guessing you’d like to keep the first place one ).

Now for my usual detailed report of all the statistics from the reviewing categories and some more (taken from the audio review categories…):

Graphics: 8, Well drawn and animated. Characters looked pretty good, animation was smooth and fluent, there isn’t much more to ask except making something instead the odd snow screen you got, maybe that old t.v error message with the Indian guy instead, or fix up the snow because it didn’t look that good.

Style: 7, A funny, not too long movie, plenty of jokes of various kinds, not really offensive ones. Remember, offensive jokes are ok only if you offend absolutely every one.

Sound: 6, You need to have the voice actors improve a bit, maybe talk a bit louder, also synchronize the lips with the sound a bit more. Though I know it’s hard, it would be much better with that included. For now they spoke a bit weakly and I had to increase the volume more than I thought to actually hear the conversations.

Violence: 5,The only real violence was the unholy sodomy of that poor guy. It was funny but still, poor guy. The rest was video game violence, nothing big.

Interactivity: 4, Sadly, a play button alone for this kind of movie just isn’t enough, a pause button and controls over scenes, volume, and quality would be very helpful.

Humor: 7, Very funny movie, the whole idea isn’t new but was well done this time around, a bit short but still very funny.

Originality: 6, It was alright, not new since it was done before and possible inspired from it, but it was good never the less.

Diversity: 6, It was refreshing, not high pace action or anything, but funny enough to keep things going.

Effort: 7, Must have taken it’s own workload but voices still need work.

Overall: 8, Very good movie overall, keep up the good work.

RPS Blockade

"Very Original game."

submission: RPS Blockade
date: July 15, 2006

An extremely original game in my opinion unlike any other “Rock Paper Scissors” game I ever remember playing, true I remember an automated version of the original game but this version is the most innovative one I’ve seen since the original RPS. Visually this was not disappointing as a game, it had a very nice background and grid. All of the animation seemed smooth and fluent. Drawings of the hands were also properly done concerning from my sketching experience I find drawing hands to be the most difficult part because no matter how you draw it, it will never look logical, but it’s because the hand just isn’t logical in the terms of natural symmetry. I played this type of game many times before but never before have I seen this more complex more full of conditions version of the game, my congratulations for solving whatever problems this planning may have brought because of the many possible out comes of every move. The sound was a high speed quick dance/club music type, naturally it fitted the game more than any genre neutrally saying, but I’m not a fan of the music genre. Of course this is a family game because it contains none of the harsh things acceptable these days as violence and nudity. Few of these family safe games still live, glad you brought them some hope back. Game-play wise, the game ran well and I had no complaints even if I tried my best, a pause button to have a break or attend to other commitments such as the bathroom or whatever. Instructions as detailed as they can to make any one old enough to play it, understand it with a bit of reading. But sadly, just as I had no complaints for the controls and interactivity, I have none for the humor, as there is none. I myself could only thing of a short example of what could be accepted as humor in this game which I will explain a bit later in my description of each category. It never got old or tedious because of the pressure to just complete it. Clearly more effort was put into this than we deserve but we sure are glad you did.

Stats:

Graphics: 8, Well drawn and animated, looked impressive as hell. But I expect nothing less from a company as well known as this one. The backgrounds seemed very fitting and so were all the forms.

Style: 7, I can’t remember the exact title of this genre of game but I’m positive every one knows it so the version is a good one.

Sound: 8, The music was suitable, very high paced tune I recognize as the kind played in clubs. so no negative comments here.

Violence: 0, The definition of a game suitable for all ages.

Interactivity: 8, Game play ran smoothly and had every button I could possible need, a pause button. Instructions to understand any part of the game any one could ever need, and a difficulty level setting, which would take a nut to crank to the end and actually try and play.

Humor: 1, Sadly, while this is a good game there isn’t much of humor in it. I came up with the suggestion of a new rare block to be inserted into the game, a hammer. Quite latterly crushing every hand it touched. Or maybe add an animation of the hands touching to do the game, that would be interesting…

Originality: 10, Probably the first of its kind. The most original game I have seen in a long time honestly. The idea of combining the two games worked out pretty well.

Diversity: 8, The game speed was fast enough to maintain some interest in the game, but at some point once you get used to it, solving the game quickly becomes more of a chore. Yes, at that point just go back increase the difficulty level, but that should be in the game as well, the possibility to change the game level while playing. Or maybe automatically even.

Effort: 9, As any flash movie/game really is, this must have taken plenty of work to make, and we do appreciate all the work just to let others play it for free.

Overall: 8, Generally a very good game to play suitable for all ages and is fun on top of that. I say this is an immediate success, keep up the good work over there at “Psycho Goldfish”.

Crows' Life Episode 2

"“Impresionante”. Lame attempt at Spanish."

date: July 15, 2006

Truly an amazing film in every single form I can think of. The graphics were astounding, they were amazing looking but you give out the feel it’s not too complicated to learn, something you won’t see in films of other known artists. You give out a feel of real human work, in the beginning, you see the Crow’s legs, and they are well drawn, then you see them again later in the film and they look different, not as well drawn. This is actually good because now we can see you are human and capable of error. Making understanding your film much simpler. The style was interesting, sort of an adventure story about animals, very nice. The voice acting, music and so on were all staggering. The professional voice actors (99% perfect clarity, minor glitches existed). Music was good for the movie genre and it worked together rather well. Despite being an adventure movie it holds its share of fighting and violence. With all of the different crows (mobsters, assassins, metal gear solid look alike, and a DBZ knock off?) that last one was actually funny. The small game to play while the movie loads was critical, I don’t know what I’d do without it… But I would really like to ask for more in movie controls, a pause button, scene select, and quality control. All of those would really help make this easier to watch, especially the pause button at first while watching this long movie I had to leave for a moment, when I cam back I didn’t understand a thing, if I were able to rewind, or pause it before I left, it would have been much better than to watch it all over again. It was funny at some times, first was the Metal Gear Solid thing you did which I found funny and then near the end the part that goes: “They think I’m crazy, but I’m not” was very typically funny. It was an original movie type if you ask me, I haven’t seen too many of those in flash so I felt it was refreshing. It was steady most of the type, predictable, a little bit un-spontaneous but it was still rather nice.

For suggestions I can only offer and ask of you to add some more buttons to help viewers.

Now for my usual detailed report of all the statistics from the reviewing categories and some more (taken from the audio review categories…):

Graphics: 10, Graphics were in lack of a better word, perfect. Extremely well animated yet at the same time, human. Animation well done, several techniques used to animate it. Sadly I myself only trained in FBF so that’s all I could point out in this movie. Looked very professional but still average in a way.

Style: 9, A very nice adventure/animal movie. Revolving mostly around paranoia and lack of trust. I don’t know about other people but I’ve never seen that done before with animals. Though it sounds like a Nicolas Cage movie to me.

Sound: 10, The music was very good, and the voice acting was impressive as well. Other than a couple mishaps while recording the sound it was pretty good. I don’t know Spanish one bit so I can’t judge that but it sounded authentic.

Violence: 10, Plenty of fighting going on during the movie, it fits in quite well, no guns or stuff like that really, but the existing violence fir in perfectly.

Interactivity: 6, A little mini-game in the loading screen which really helped seeing as this 10 MG movie took quite a while to load. But other in game controls would have helped immensely. Like a pause button maybe?

Humor: 9, A few funny bits, such as the scene with Solid Crow and the “I’m crazy, no I’m not” scene. Terrific humor.

Originality: 7, I’d say the concept of the movie was original, so was the performance. This can be titled successfully original

Diversity: 7, Pretty good on that department. I can’t say I was bored for one second, it wasn’t really an action film but it kept my interest long enough.

Effort: 8, great looking movie and the effort put into it is very visible. And still it looked human in the sense that it wasn’t ridiculously professional looking to make us all bad and discouraged about making flash.

Overall: 10, Great movie, I really liked it, but please add some more buttons.

Author's Response:

First of all, I would say..WOW THAT'S A LONG REVIEW...so I read it.

It was actually very constructive and encouraging to create episode 3 but might as well take a rest with the crows for a while.

Now, about the pause button, why didn't I place it!?, the fact is, the movie tended to unsych the sound and the only way was to force some chunks of the movie into ...well it hard to explain, the fact is, a pause/play button would really make the movie crash :P.

Thanks for recalling the effort and for enjoying it and for making the review

Zombie Survival: SM

"Great Sprite game."

date: July 15, 2006

This is on my favorite games, I had a lot of fun playing this game even though I suck (dead by level 23). The game was very good looking in every aspect. The in game graphics were sprites, but good ones none the less, not too close, not too far. In a good distance, backgrounds suited it. The animation was of course of the sprites, but still was smooth. The looks of the menus of the game were also very aesthetic. A great action game which I will be playing for months to come, great work, it’s more than addictive. Even though I only tried midnight level only once. Music was nice, the sounds worked alright, I don’t really think there was a need for more gun sounds or anything. Maybe new weapons if that’s possible. Plenty of shooting but thankfully you did warn before the game that it was gory. Lots of fun blood in this game. The menus offered everything I needed and more, the game controls were good but it was very frustrating that jumping over enemies is so damn hard. I jumped like over one only to jump in to the arms of another… Still the controls were mostly good. Not really funny unless you consider dying by your own mine funny. Original uses to some things, a nice zombie defense game, though I don’t think I ever resorted to the knife over the gun. New zombies appeared every now and then keeping it interesting, I never got past the mummies. Definitely a lot of effort put into this game as well.

For suggestions I recommend maybe new guns, maybe make jumps a bit bigger. Everything else is either already in it or would only diminish from the game.

Now for my usual detailed report of all the statistics from the reviewing categories and some more (taken from the audio review categories…):

Graphics: 8, Good sprite animation and very good looking menus. Sprite motion was good, decent backgrounds, the menus were simple but looked like a lot of effort went into them despite being just menus which reflects well on the game play. That’s about all here.

Style: 8, A very nice defense/zombies game, fun and easy to play game. A bit hard at time probably from the fact that jumping over enemies is possible, but rather hard. Still it managed to combine how hard it was with fun and kept me playing for 2 days now.

Sound: 8, Nice sounds for the stuff around like the zombies, the gun, the menu sounds. Gunfire sounds were indeed a bit repetitive but it was actually predictable because it’s so with almost any shooting game.

Violence: 8, lots of violence, and gun fire. Plenty of good clean adult violence. The occasional head shot, too bad it never happened before buying the upgrade despite it saying “improve chances of head”, I don’t think I had any. The knife was there but useless to me, I didn’t like using it, nor did I find it needed.

Interactivity: 8, the menus were full and provided everything I needed to know The controls were fine but the jumping was very frustrating. In 2 days of playing, only now did I actually jump over a zombie. In game controls were mostly fine. But some air control would be appreciated, like turning around and maybe firing while jumping, of course that depends of such a sprite exists, but I hope there is one.

Humor: 9, the only thing I found funny was me jumping on my own mine, which of course blew me the hell up.

Originality: 8, Pretty original game, fun to play and had a purpose, though some new things and additions wouldn’t kill. The character used as the hero seemed a bit newer, usually people use the heroes from metal slug, glad this was different.

Diversity: 7, Diversity was alright, new zombies appeared ever couple levels, backgrounds moved in order. Rather average for that sort of game. New weapons would have been nice to see in an update, of course I don’t know the first thing about sprites really so I don’t know if it’s possible.

Effort: 8, Must have taken plenty of time to make but it turned out very well after all that work.

Overall: 9, A pretty great game, I play every single day trying to get better, I hope you improve the jump feature though.

Ninja Golf

"Nice game"

submission: Ninja Golf
date: July 15, 2006

It was a fun game to play with good controls, very well animated with smooth motion, very good drawings, and a great idea with plenty of effort, diversity and originality. The style was good, different from any golf game I have ever played. Music was very well placed; sounds as well suited the atmosphere of the game. Violent enough for me, you kick enemies and dodge that odd crap mice throw and throw shurikens at them though you don’t usually have to. A boss at the end you have to kill with them, though they don’t end on the boss part. Interactivity was fine, good controls, quality settings at the beginning, an explanation and instructions later, and then you play. Though I would have like more ways to fight the boss, or even a new boss every level would be absolutely great. It was funny by the plot of the ultimate Ninja journey being 9 holes of golf. Since you had a voice actor it would have been nice to make some jokes with that, (check GTA games radio stations for inspiration). I’d say this was original for a flash game, diverse, though it could have used some more elements, another move, or something like that, still plenty fun. Lots of effort put into this game from what I see. Overall fun and easy to play, the one and only recipe to a good game. Good work, keep it up.

Now for suggestions, I’d suggest some fighting combinations with a golf club instead of a sword, a “putter slash”, a “9 iron stab” and things like that. Different clubs for choice, maybe a couple new enemies though I’d say there enough. A new boss for every level, things like that, maybe mini golf like tracks for bonus levels, I understand it’s by no means easy or fast to make and that this made daily feature as it is but it would make it all the better. Hope you find this all helpful and tediously long.

Now for my usual detailed report of all the statistics from the reviewing categories and some more (taken from the audio review categories…):

Graphics: 8, Well drawn and animated, the motion was very good. It moved quickly and smoothly thanks to the quality buttons I’ll expand on later, it looked nice and I liked
playing it for quite a while, think of my “mini golf” suggestion.

Style: 8, A remake of an already good game, made better. An action/sport game, haven’t seen one of those in flash…ever. Quite original ideas for the remake of it. The creators would love to see themselves I’m sure.

Sound: 8, From now on I’m afraid I cannot say much more because of review limits, but the sound was great, beautiful music and terrific sound effects for each movement. Even a voice actor for the written text which made it much better.

Violence: 8, plenty of fighting but the no gore style, even suitable for children because there is no blood. But still keeps the fighting there for adults to have some fun. Though a button to choose to show or hide blood and gore would have been better.

Interactivity: 8, good responsive controls, all the buttons one would neat for pre settings, and in game controls. I couldn’t ask for more and mean it. But I recommend inserting a duck button, as well as good reasons to duck, if you can jump, why can’t you duck ;-)

Humor: 9, It was funny because after all how many games relate ninjas and pro golf. I thought the humor was sticking out in that big twist. Nice work on that. The enemies were a bit funny as well, I still don’t know if that was a mouse, what the hell was that brown stuff he was throwing at me.

Originality: 9, One of the most original flash games I have ever seen, the role of a Shuriken throwing, kicking, jumping ninja playing golf is very original. Same applies with the enemies, natural enemies like fish, mice, frogs, ninjas. Wait….Yeah, frogs is natural.

Diversity: 9, plenty of different terrains to run through including desert, water and grass. Plenty diverse for any gamer looking for a golf game.

Effort: 10, obviously lots of effort went into this, as with any good game. Good work there.

Overall: 9, Fantastic game, glad I had the chance to play it. Keep it up. Full review.

Hapless

"Loved it beyond the edge of reason."

submission: Hapless
date: June 24, 2006

Damn did I love this movie, it couldn’t have spoken to me more if it had my name on it. It’s a great film and every sense that exists. The problems and solutions of today, There is nothing we can do to predict our life, and only live it while we can. A man surrounded by problems from every direction of his life, including school, women and just staying alive, every one can identify to this movie. The visuals were good, I’m not saying they are flawless but if it’s any comfort, it’s better than anything I’ll ever make. The animation was well done, a good healthy share of violence. Fighting, chasing, running away from the grim reaper, having the grim reaper run from a dog ( priceless if I may add ). A play and replay button, and it’s all it needed, a pause button wouldn’t be a good idea since interrupting a music video is just destroying it. Humor was intense. I laughed quite a few times, especially during the running grim reaper part and falling into the water carrying the “Crap” sign. It was truly funny, not for him of course, but we are humans, we take pleasure in other people’s misery. And generally, astounding film not so much by the drawings or animation, but by the message behind them. But between you and me, never had the urge to shoot some one else? I understand you may have never shot some one, but to never even want to? A bit odd. I on the other hand, represent a whole firing squad knowing how many people I’d like to help get an early grave. But never mind that, good work, keep it up.

Now for the details of the film.

Graphics: Great visuals in this film in every form, great drawings and animation, smooth and easy to watch. Though I recommend just a couple sketching lessons of the human body ( especially the arm ), the wrist is a tricky thing to draw, it never seems right, but there is a way so try and find yours. This is about the part of the movie where the guy is pulled out of the water by the girl, her arm looks...inhuman.

Style: A fun little music video about life and its problems. Filled with humor and creativity. Nice work there.

Sound: Music was synchronized pretty well in the movie, not much sound other than that.

Violence: A bit. A bully chases the guy around, so do dogs, he gets slapped at the end. Not much, but not nothing. Alright I suppose.

Interactivity: A play and replay button, by everything holy, don’t add more. A music video needs no more.

Humor: Very funny film. I laughed several times during the bits. Any one who can make me laugh, is a good comedian.

Overall: Good movie that I enjoyed watching, keep up the good work.

"Peculiar but good film."

date: June 24, 2006

I enjoyed this film despite it having a couple flaws, firstly I would like to mention the obvious lack of a play button which would have helped to see the movie when we wanted to, rather when is loaded. But despite that, it is a very good movie with the most tempting and strange plots I’ve seen in a long time. Seemingly a young woman ( who already lives with some one, both of the “talk less, do more” type ). Gets a letter from her aunt asking her to watch her home while she is away for a while, despite not having remembered this so called aunt, she rushes over on a scooter ( I was almost expecting the bat-mobile ) and comes over there is a series of questions, huge shadow monsters and black butterflies. All this seems to end with that woman being killed ( I may be wrong, the plot was confusing at times ) and being berried next a rose with her name next to it. So as I said the plot is without question the most interesting dramatic idea I have seen an in ions. But putting the great storyline aside, the technical features were very good as well. Visually interesting because you only colored some specific things, the tie, the scooter and the roses, while the roses color contributed to the plot, the tie must represent the company which made this, yet the scooter seems to have no reason, and I doubt any one who can come up with such a plot would do anything without a reason, perhaps hidden inside reason? No matter, it was very well done. The voices were good but seemed to sketch a bit, perhaps improving quality of sound by any way just a bit would help. Some scenes of violence with the big monster thing I suppose, nothing much though. Also a bit funny at some parts, seemed sort of a British way of humor, not bad, more…interesting. And overall,
very good movie but leaves a lot of holes I’d like to see filled in following movies.

And after the general summery I would like to present you with the details of my scoring
to this film.

Graphics: 8, Very nice and interesting graphics. Smooth good animations, specific coloring. All that put together made for a very attractive looking film, while I have questions about the used colors, I’ll hope you explain it another time.

Style: 8, A dramatic movie style with an original plot and a brilliant animation to demonstrate it with. Great work on the style of it along with the plot which as you know I loved, I hope it developed more over time.

Sound: 8, Very nice music during the film and the voices were also good and sounded a bit British. The voice acting was alright but the sound quality of it wasn’t as good as it could be. I suggest you work a bit on that issue.

Violence: 1, Just a bit of violence in the movie, hardly anything really, just those inexplicable monsters destroying the near by city, still it was tastefully done and there wasn’t a lot of it so it’s still hardly anything.

Interactivity: 1, Very little, just the replay button, noticeably lacking the play button. Adding would be necessary. And some other controls that I specified before would come in handy or just fun to toy around with.

Humor: 4, Again, little of it, only the thoughts of that certain woman during these weird events.

Overall: 8, Very good movie overall, glad I saw it and I hope to see it again in the form of a sequel.

Author's Response:

Whoa, huge review.

Ah the colour choice, a personal preference I suppose. If I like it and it looks good, then that is my only reason for using it. I had no time to put deep thought into everything, since it's an assignment, I just had to make quick choices or I'd run out of time. That's why the story is kinda missing that 'something', and is so short.

Haha, that music is so easy to make. THe voices really ruined it, I can't even watch it cos they bother and embarass me so much XD.

I think I put no play button, to keep it like the website. I was going to ass one lol.

As for humor, I guess it could be kinda british, since I'm Australian o_0

Thank you for the great review.

"Great work."

First let me start by saying that you do not have to limit yourself to the 5 MG restriction as most authors do, contact Tom Fulp in person ( it may be hard, but it works ) and any good movie above 5 MG that deserves it’s size, will be submitted by him, with all your comments and be the same. There have been flashes hosted on NG as big as 12 MG so if you contact him, you don’t have to follow this restriction which is meant to stop regular people from submitting oversized bad flash that only take up space.

And now for the movie, it was amazing. Every single part of it was a joy. The visuals even though you claim are limited, were mind blowing. Great Frame by frame animation. Beautiful drawings. It was amazing in every step of the way. The feel of the action was clear, lots of guns firing and people smacking with wands. Not to mention the interesting characters and well thought out plot. The detailed characters, the intro which sound like what was done in “Wink: the game”. You could use some voice actors but it’s not that big of a deal. The plot integrated well and gave meaning to the whole movie. Sound was phenomenal through out the movie, from the text part to the actual movie. No doubt music was great and synchronized well but voice actors would really help this movie be better. Especially during the text bits. Violence was easy to find, but being a cartoon with furry animals it didn’t feel very violent. Which is a good sign because it’s “pretend” violence, a child will enjoy this for the characters, while an adult will prefer the hints of violence and story line. On our side there wasn’t much though, there was a play button and a scroll between the text. Which is more than enough but more isn’t always less, a couple more buttons of different options would do well. As for laughs, it wasn’t bad, a couple looks that were meant to bring you a smile so that’s good, so generally, a great movie, and remember, you aren’t restricted by size.

Now after that rather general expression of the film we move to details, I know many authors enjoy a constructive critic and so they shall have.

Graphics: 9, absolutely great, the animation was fluent and smooth and quick. For an action movie it looked perfect. I do think you underestimate yourself, your animation is superb, and so many other artists can’t hold a candle to you. You really are great animator, keep going.

Style: 9, Clearly an action movie though the plot was so specific I could have mistaken it for an adventure novel of some sort. It was well done, colorful and full of life. Suitable for kids and adults alike. I can’t wait for the sequel.

Sound: 8, Sound was in lack of a better word, perfect. The music fit into every movement like silk. Every motion was done in harmony with the sounds. Though voice actors with talent would work miracles with this movie. I strongly suggest them

Violence: 8, Plenty of fighting going on during the movie but as I said earlier, it’s tastefully done and not that violent. Some thing not realistic so children can watch and not think of trying it too, but brutal enough to realize it is a fight. Just right.

Interactivity: 5, Well, a few more controls would be great. Quality/music/pause buttons would have added plenty to the movie even though it’s pretty good now as well.

Humor: 3, A couple moments more on the humorous side, not many but they are there and noticed. Good work on that as well.

Overall: 9, Terrific movie, remember you aren’t’ limited by size, add a couple buttons, voice actors, and I’ll buy you a medal.

Author's Response:

One of the reasons I didn't use voicing for the narration was because it's interactive. It'd sound funny if you clicked the button and the voice reading the page just cut out.

Anyway, my next animation will be fully voice acted with music and sound effects...I just need to find a nice bank of free sound effects. It's a bit hard to record an explosion on your tinny little microphone headset. :p

Thanks for the wonderful constructive critisism. I'll take it all on board.
